Chip Griffin

Chip Griffin helps small PR and marketing agency owners build businesses that they want to own. He works with them to grow profits, eliminate overwork, and improve their overall satisfaction.

As an experienced entrepreneur and agency owner himself, Chip shares the wisdom of his successes and the lessons from his failures. He understands the challenges and opportunities that face agency owners because he sat in the same chair and faced similar decisions.

Chip joined his first agency 30 years ago as a Junior Account Executive and has had an appreciation for the highs and lows these firms experience ever since.

At the core of Chip’s consulting and coaching is the Build to Own approach that he created to help ensure that agency owners achieve their goals from the businesses that they run. As he always says, there is no reason to take on all of the risk and stress of owning your own agency if it doesn’t give back what you want.

Over the course of two decades of entrepreneurship, Chip has created and grown more than half a dozen different companies and has experience with buying and selling these types of businesses.

Chip has also served as an entrepreneur from within, becoming one of the first Chief Digital Officers for a major public relations agency when he joined DCI Group to help them build a robust digital communications practice.

He sold CustomScoop, a media monitoring company he co-founded, to CARMA in 2015 and went on to become their North American CEO and then Chief Operating Officer of the global media intelligence agency headquartered in Dubai.

A sought-after speaker and commentator, Chip is a prolific content creator who launched his first blog in 1999 and has been podcasting since 2006. His writing has appeared in leading publications, including The New York Times and The Washington Post. He has also served as a regular columnist for publications covering technology, communications, and public policy.

Chip has served in a variety of nonprofit and volunteer roles, including several terms as Chair of the American University School of Public Affairs Advisory Council and President of the AU Alumni Association. He spends whatever free time he has honing his sports and portrait photography skills.

Chip Griffin founded the Small Agency Growth Alliance (SAGA) to help PR and marketing agency owners achieve their goals.
